The IGC, an intergovernmental commodity body based in London, focuses on providing independent and authoritative information on world grains, rice and oilseeds market developments for dissemination to member governments, subscribers and the public. The Council, which administers the Grains Trade Convention, also monitors national grain policies, conducts surveys of the international grain economy and fosters co-operation between governments and the industry.

The Council has a vacancy for an Analyst/Developer. Duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Provide in-depth daily reporting and analysis of grains/oilseeds markets, dry bulk freight and industry-related subjects
  • Maintain and develop in-house databases, models and analytical tools
  • Continuously seek to automate and streamline processes
  • Present at intergovernmental meetings and international conferences

Qualifications: The successful candidate should have:

  • Microsoft Office and VBA programming skills
  • Understanding of object-orientated programming
  • Ability to write clear, well-documented and scalable Python code, including:
  • Data collection and manipulation(pandas, requests, eikon)
  • Visualisation(dash, plotly, matplotlib)
  • Knowledge of basic SQL syntax
  • Web development: HTML, CSS
  • Databases: SQLite, MS Access
  • Public cloud: AWS, Azure
  • Knowledge or interest in agri-commodity markets. An understanding in biofuels, livestock or freight markets is an advantage.
  • Ability to write clear, concise and informative reports
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a team and under limited supervision
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills

Minimum requirements:

  • Quantitative degree from a university in agricultural economics or economics
  • Minimum two years' experience in market analysis in the commodities sector. Exceptional recent graduates will also be considered;
  • Citizenship of one of IGC's member states*
  • Excellent written, communication and presentation skills in English
  • Knowledge of another IGC's working languages (French, Spanish, Russian) is a plus

Compensation: Commensurate with experience and qualifications
