Dear user,
As was noted in last month's report, it is important to note that in preparing this document, only the prevailing international policy backdrop has been taken into account, and it is assumed that such policies will remain in place over the entire forecast period.
In addition to updated outlooks for 2024/25, the report includes updated projections for world supply and demand for grains, oilseeds, rice and pulses (chickpeas) in 2025/26.
This month's report includes a Market Focus on world soyameal trade, which underscores a sustained uplift in volumes on firmer demand from buyers in Asia, the Americas and Africa. On the supply side, exports by the US and Brazil have increased strongly in recent years as rising demand for soya oil has boosted processing, thereby giving rise to increasingly large soyameal surpluses. Separately, a Regular Feature on the industrial use of grains predicts global consumption at a peak of 407m t (+2%) in 2025/26, near-entirely boosted by gains in maize uptake, mainly for ethanol production.
An additional Regular Feature includes the Council's updated outlook for world pulses trade in 2025, with volumes expected to contract by 7% y/y, chiefly on softer demand for dry peas and lentils. Finally, a Special Feature provides an overview of trends in global rye production, consumption and trade.
