Meeting of the International Grains Council

Members of the International Grains Council (IGC) convened for the 64th Council Session on 8 June 2026. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Amy Little, Agriculture Counsellor to the UK, Australian High Commission to the UK.

Owing to a reduced area for harvesting and a likely dip in yields, world grains production was predicted to decline by 3% y/y in 2026/27, to 2,414m t; chiefly tied to smaller wheat and maize outturns, it would represent the first contraction in four years. With uptake expected to edge up on gains in food and industrial use, combined end-season stocks were anticipated to be drawn down, with a 9% y/y fall in major exporters’ reserves forecast.
