Prospects for the 2026/27 maize harvest have been adversely affected by successive heatwaves in parts of Europe. With otherwise few changes, total grains production is forecast 5m t lower m/m (month-on-month), at 2,422m. The reduced crop outlook has prompted a modest downward revision to the Council's use projection, placed 1m t down from previously, at 2,447m, still a record.

India Middle East Agri Alliance organized a challenge entitled “Smart Global Grains Trade” to improve the understanding of the use of AI in trade. The challenge brought together Start-ups, Unicorns and mature companies developing new solutions to optimize the grains trade.

Owing to a reduced area for harvesting and a likely dip in yields, world grains production was predicted to decline by 3% y/y in 2026/27, to 2,414m t; chiefly tied to smaller wheat and maize outturns, it would represent the first contraction in four years. With uptake expected to edge up on gains in food and industrial use, combined end-season stocks were anticipated to be drawn down, with a 9% y/y fall in major exporters’ reserves forecast.
